Enjoy the Music: 2026 Toronto Audiofest Show Report
“This boutique retail store features brands that I have very high regard for. Not the biggest and most widely known names, but ones I've heard and admired in person at shows in Canada and the US.
The stereo/mono [sic] rooms have been among the best at shows here and in Montreal, and before that, in rooms fitted with Luna Cables that Danny has helped set up, the music has always been superior to what was expected.”
Stereophile: 2026 Toronto Audiofest Show Review
“Danny Labrecque knows good sound. He also knows the retail side of the audio business, having worked for years at some of Montreal's most iconic stores. Over that time, his knowledge of and passion for audio grew, but what he enjoyed most, as he told me recently, was interacting with people and bringing them joy through audio.
[…]
On a recent reissue of Sonny Rollins's classic 1956 Prestige LP Saxophone Colossus, Sonny's sax sounded ample and thick-toned, conveying a sense of air propulsion and an almost viscous continuity from note to note that felt lifelike. Double-bass notes sounded acutely finger-propelled, with marvelous dynamic contrasts and richly rendered string textures, while drum hits delivered impact and a vivid sense of the materials being struck.
There was also a remarkable sense of tonal rightness, as if every note across the frequency range were ideally balanced and perfectly pitched.
It was wonderful.”
Audionation’s Jeff Wells: Did the Rules Survive the Show?
“I didn't choose the music in the Soulnote and Guru room. Ruby Nikols did. Ruby [of mono/stéréo] is a recording engineer, and she picked the songs and ran that room for the entire show, which spared everyone the usual exhibitor habit of playing the track they've played four hundred times because it flatters their gear. Ruby chose music the way someone who's spent her young life on the other side of the glass chooses it: for what's on the tape.
She also snuck in Taylor Swift's “Fortnight,” and the production surprised everyone. It put the “just play regular music” crowd completely at ease, and it sounded great. Which brings me to the Diana Krall connection, such as it is: talent doesn't need a loud introduction, whether it's at the piano or at the faders. Both of them kept the room sounding good. Thank you, Ruby. You made me look like I'd planned it.”
Jay's iyagi: 2026 Montreal Audiofest
“But for me the absolute best of the show went to mono/stéréo’s room, featuring Jean-Maurer speakers […] The sound? Some of the most natural timing, realistic tone, and effortless musical flow I’ve heard at any show.”
